Fic: Wayne Manor on the Prairie

This is just a little fic I wrote for <ij user="harukafic"> for my AU meme. She asked for Batman set in the LHOTP era. This would have just been a comment, but for some reason, it wouldn't let me reply to it. Go figure.

Title: Wayne Manor on the Prairie
Rating: G
Words: 318

"Ready, Pardner?"

Dick nodded as Bruce looked out the window of the covered wagon. The bandits up ahead had stopped another wagon, and were currently holding a family hostage while one of the bandits collected their goods. There were a lot of people heading out here to make a new life for themselves these days, and that brought out those who would do evil to those who made easy victims. Not in his path.

"So, what's the plan, Bruce?"

"The same as always." Bruce donned his usual domino mask in the shape of a Bat. "We stop them."

Bruce and Dick stood at the edges of the windows and leapt out. Bruce landed directly on the back of one of the robbers, knocking him to the ground. Dick landed, dodged a punch from the other villain, then swept him off his feet.

"Duke! Bo! What's the commotion out - "

The third robber stepped out of the wagon, only to walk right into a punch from Batman.

"I - I don't know what to say. Thank you." the father of the family stammered as they tied up the robbers. "Who are you?"

"Batman and Robin. We're here to protect the people of this trail."

With that, Bruce and Dick jumped back into the wagon. Alfred stuck his head back from the carriage.

"I say, sirs, I really wish you would let me come to a complete stop before jumping out. It would do wonders for my old heart."

"Sorry, Alfred" Dick grinned. "Man, Bruce, when you told me we were heading to the prairie, I thought it'd be boring. Boy, was I wrong!"

"There's innocents to protect everywhere, Dick. Now we'd better get going. We've got a lot of goods to give out."

Alfred motioned the horses to keep moving. Bruce Wayne could do a lot of good for the people of this area, and Batman wouldn't hurt either.

AU Meme

Give me some characters and an alternate universe. Maybe a prompt too, if
you'd like. I'll give you at least a drabble about them in that universe.

Do as many as you want, but only one prompt per comment so I can reply to
each separately.
